A Year in Review 2024

The year began with joining the Master Gardener program

May 20th: Friends for All with Gloria, Christina and Susan.

in Franklin County and was one of the best decisions I have made.  I met 65 other enthusiasts, we were fire-hosed with a ridiculous amount of information, I discovered there are 60-plus projects in the county and I made numerous friends along the way. What an adventure that was truly joyful.

We screened our film, “A Higher Law” three additional times in 2024 including in Lorain, Portsmouth and Columbus Ohio. And were recognized with an Emmy in July in Lexington, Kentucky. It was a thrilling ex

perience to be acknowledged for the story that we worked on for 4-years. And it almost died on the vine – THREE times!   We have more projects in the works in 2025 – stay tuned!  Tenacity is the key to life as an artist.

I attended several concerts and shows throughout the year with a highlight of seeing Neko Case for the third time!  She has the voice of an angel. And legend Jorma Kaukonen at the Stuart Opera House – always a fun atmosphere. Some shows were on television, some with nature including a full solar eclipse, and a rare moon rising.  Unfortunately, I did not see any Northern Lights as many others did.

I know the life of a photojournalist has changed drastically for so many, but I have managed to pivot in a way where I feel I am pretty much doing the same type of work as I did during my newspaper days, it just has a little different look now.

I’ve added documentary filmmaker to my skill set where I always have a long-term passion project in the works with completing my fourth film.  I did some commissioned work for clients. Including doing some commissioned work of architecture throughout Ohio.

And I continue to do lots of EVENT | PORTRAITS | FAMILY photography that all pays the bills. Plus, I am still inspired by the occasional feature photo where I see moments in life that I am compelled to capture – that is now a dying art and yet so ubiquitous with our “smartphones” we don’t recognize the genius that it once brought into our lives – for those who read an actual newspaper.  I still see them (moments)  and hope for them – that is the drive of an artist – paid or unpaid.

And to all of our wonderful neighbors, many friends and family who bring light into our lives, much gratitude. And to all the past colleagues, professors and classmates who made me a better photographer and storyteller –  your guidance and inspiration continues to resonate, whether it was thirty years ago or just last year. Thank you! Here is to another year supporting artists and storytellers.  May your  new year resolution include creating the art that inspires you and  your community.

Happy New Year

Christina
